Pepsi, the aerated soft drinks global brand has forayed into smartphones for a crowdfunded project on JD.com to sell in the Chinese market. Yes, not joking, one might question, how relevant is smartphone business with Pepsi’s core business? The truth is that Pepsi has just leased its brand to Shenzen Scooby Communication Equipment Co., a Chinese smart phone tech manufacturer to market their low budget smartphone technology. However, the association is debatable but has got quite some PR since the launch with major tech sites and news portals talking about it.

Okay! so why Pepsi? right

Shenzen hopes to market their tech using the brand Pepsi however in the longer run, with India being the next biggest consumer of budget smartphones, they will enter the market and in the past we have seen many Chinese players like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and Huawei make their niche in the market and eventually take a share of the smartphone market. With similar interests Shenzen has introduced Pepsi P1 and P1s.

So why is Pepsi P1 and P1s so unique?

Both Pepsi P1 and P1s is powered by 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM. The phone packs 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card. Okay, wait wait! The phone also boasts a finger print reader at the back just below the 13MP camera. Now that is a tech you would not find in any other budget phone, would you? All this at a price range of Rs.7500.
